12 Real Celebrity Friendships

Yes, some of these celebrity friendships are equally adorable and inspiring.

When it comes to having a real boyfriend or girlfriend, it’s not a sure thing, and friendships in the life of celebrities are probably even rarer when you consider the special circumstances of their lives. In fact, that’s probably why some of the best friends in show business are similarly famous. Below are twelve celebrity friendships that are quite evidently genuine.

Next to each other, Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps first met back in Dawsons Creek days and since then they’ve been best friends. The two can often be seen together on the red carpet, privately relaxing, or even on New Year’s Eve vacation in the Maldives!

Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts

Having known each other since they were teenagers, Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts frequently can be seen together in Hollywood on the red carpet or in semi-romantic escapes on stage. “Nicole, starred as she grabbed Naomi’s head and went all out – placing her pink painted lips on top of her friend’s.” Wow!

Kelly Osbourne and Miley Cyrus

When growing up in similar environments, you’re actually more likely to have a genuine friendship because your boyfriend or girlfriend better can understand where you’re coming from. Actually, both Kelly Osbourne and Miley Cyrus have famous musicians as fathers, plus the girls got closer during the filming of the movie “So Undercover”. Well, now that both of them are famous themselves, they can reinforce their cohesion with their love for crazy hairstyles and outlandish behavior.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler win the award for Hollywood’s funniest friendship couple. These two met when they were studying their trade in Chicago and then became famous on Saturday Night Live. In fact, the duo is so dynamic that they have already teamed up for several movies and like to be seen as a pair of presenters at award shows like the Golden Globes, where they have now successfully hosted three times.

However, fans will likely have to do without the latter in the future. “No, we’ve had enough,” Fey said upon being asked if she wanted to make people laugh at the Beverly Hilton one more time. “We had so much fun doing it, but everything has its time and it’s over now.” And if you’re hopeful that they might be shifting their focus to the Oscars, we’re sorry to disappoint. Let’s hope they both change their minds.

Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz

Since they both starred in the movie Hi-Lo Country (1998), Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz had been best friends and regularly referred to each other as sisters as well. Having just arrived in America, Cruz was quite understandably nervous, however things quickly turned around when Salma picked her up in person from the airport and introduced her to the area.

The two subsequently became fast friends and since then have often been seen together in Hollywood. “I love Salma Hayek,” Penélope Cruz once said. “We’ve been friends for a really long time. I really admire how she’s made it this far and yet always kept her feet on the ground. In terms of her vision, she never compromises and she’s loyal. Only great stars have qualities like that.”

George Clooney and Brad Pitt

Having fun playing pranks on each other, together with the honor of regularly taking turns landing on the lists of the most handsome men, created more than one reason for George Clooney and Brad Pitt to be best friends. Although more recent reports say that the two are actually fighting over the rights to “Law of the Jungle,” a book that will be made into a movie about Ecuador’s problems with jungle pollution.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen

The cutest pair of friends in Hollywood is perhaps also the oldest. While Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are 81 and 82 years old, you might think they’re young guys when you see them fooling around. From appearing together as Magneto and Professor X in the X-Men movies, to McKellen attending the wedding ceremony between Stewart and singer Sunny Orzell, to both of them drinking out of tiny hats, Stewart and McKellen are the sort of longtime friends we all hope to have someday.

Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz

Having been big names in Hollywood, both Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz became best friends when they started appearing in the hit movie Charlie’s Angels in 2000. Together, the pair brandished weapons, saved the day and during the filming formed a true friendship that lasts to this day. “We had known each other years before in Los Angeles…We saw each other, waved and said hi, but we never had each other’s phone numbers. [After Charlie’s Angels] we pretty much spent every free moment together for months and years!” said Drew.

Cameron is equally crazy about her friend, and has been known to break off an interview to come to the defense of her best mate (that’s what happened when she was asked about Drew’s troubled childhood and adolescence in an interview). So watch out, journalists!

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been good friends since they were children and actually grew up in the same neighborhood – two blocks away, to be exact. While there was a small age difference, common interests continued to keep the two together into adulthood as they followed their acting dreams.

When they won the Oscars for their screenplay for the movie Good Will Hunting in 1997, the two were on their personal peak, which resulted in one of the most exuberant acceptance speeches of all time. It sure looks like the two will remain best friends for life. As a matter of fact, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are tenth cousins (due to a common relative who lived in New England) and thus virtually part of one and the same family!

Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox

With their roles in the hit series Friends, Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox have remained best friends in real life. Between them they have seen each other through fame, marriages and divorces, headlines and rumors, and after all the good times and bad, they remain as close as ever.

Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift

The adorable friendship between Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss started in February 2012, with Taylor appearing in her first cover story in US Vogue. It seems she saw a picture of Karlie and said “I love Karlie Kloss… I want to bake with her!” In response, her future best friend replied via Twitter, “Hey @taylorswift13 love the @voguemagazine cover! Your kitchen or mine? J”. They first met in person when Taylor Swift was performing at the Victoria’s Secret show and Karlie was keen for them both to become best friends.

“We met at the show, and we never saw each other before that, but we’re best friends now. It is great to meet another American girl, we are the same age and she is so inspiring – she is so gifted and so true to herself. She’s a cool girl and I’m glad she’s part of the show this year. She totally rocked it.” And you both totally hit it out of the park in terms of friendship!

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire

Both Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire came across each other when they were competing for first roles in the acting business, yet that didn’t stop the two from forming one of Hollywood’s best friendships. What is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s longest friendships and most celebrated brotherhoods began in their teenage years when both auditioned for the same roles in the late ’80s.

The story has it that the two became fast friends and swore to each other that they would get each other roles. When asked about working with DiCaprio on The Great Gatsby (2013), Tobey replied, “The fact that I was forced to see one of my best friends every day was fantastic.” Best friends forever!
