Tha Last of US HBO

Yesterday was a big day for the folks at streaming platform HBO (and HBO Max). Their announcement of this year’s Emmy Award nominees reinforced the high quality of the platform, which has the five most-nominated shows this year, including Succession (25 nominations), The White Lotus (20), Hacks (17), Euphoria (16) and Barry (14).

The Warner Bros. Discovery parent, thus, topped the list for the first time with 155 combined nominations.

When combining HBO and HBO Max shows, a total of 24 shows accumulated 140 nominations, while the main competitor, Netflix, settled for 35 shows that accumulated 105 nominations in total.

HBO and HBO Max’s head of original content, Casey Bloys, explained to The Hollywood Reporter about different aspects of this success, expecting a repeat next year with its promising upcoming series.

HBO to launch The Last of Us in 2023

Bloys noted that among the new series on the way to HBO Max is The Last of Us, which will debut “near the beginning of 2023.”

This series, of which scenes resembling those of the video game have been leaked, is already finished filming, therefore it is now in post-production and after these announcements a delay in its premiere is not expected.

Pedro Pascal, in the role of Joel, and Bella Ramsey, as Ellie, will be starring in The Last of Us. The two were the protagonist survivors who joined all their forces and skills in the first game of the franchise.

Nevertheless, the series will feature changes. While the PlayStation 3 title’s timeline was set in the year 2033, HBO Max has changed its chronology, transporting the adaptation to 2023.
