Resident Evil Lance Reddick

An all-new attempt to adapt the Resident Evil iconography in live-action is set to see the light of day this Thursday, July 14, on Netflix. This new series from the platform will feature the villain, Albert Wesker, in the lead role, along with his two daughters.

It will be a story that is cooked in two beats: one part of the plot takes place in 2022, while the other takes place in 2036.

Lance Reedick, who you will know from movies like John Wick: Another Day to Kill and for voicing Commander Zavala in Destiny (among many other roles), immortalizes Albert Wesker in live-action.

While speaking with PC Gamer, Reedick has admitted that, when he accepted the role, he was completely unaware that his character originated from Capcom’s video games. Indeed, the actor was only familiar with the Paul W. S. Anderson films starring Milla Jovovich.

“I had no idea that it was actually based on a video game. I only knew the movies, so I approached the character from that perspective. When we were filming, I didn’t think about having to play an already established iconic character, I just kept trying to bring to life what was on the page of the script. Then as the series progresses, you see how my Wesker is connected to the Wesker from the games.”

The point of view of Lance Reedick when it comes to giving life to a character based in video games is, interestingly, diametrically opposed to the one Henry Cavill took when it came to embodying Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher.

The British actor happens to be a fan of the saga created by Andrzej Sapkowski and an experienced video game player. Cavill has said many times that knowing the character in such detail is extremely helpful to him when it comes to immortalizing Geralt in the Netflix series.

We will find out this Thursday, July 14, if Lance Reedick’s Albert Wesker is up to par with his video game counterpart in Capcom’s zombie saga.
