Eleven years have passed since the release of George R.R. Martin’s last novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (which became the basis for the HBO series, titled Game of Thrones), and the work on his next book, titled The Winds of Winter, is still going on, as the author periodically reminds us.
He has now posted a new entry on his blog, whereby he informed that fans do not have to be worried that the plot of his series will follow the same course as the ending of Game of Thrones, which has been widely criticized by viewers.
In fact, the writer revealed that characters who were killed in the series may survive in the books, and those who got happy endings in the series from HBO may end up miserably in his series. Which should satisfy those readers who were not happy with the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss concluded the various storylines.
A release date for The Winds of Winter remains unknown further down the line, which is hardly surprising given how many empty promises have already been delivered by Martin in recent years.
He reportedly wrote hundreds of pages in 2020, but considering that the book still hasn’t hit bookstore shelves, it clearly hasn’t brought him significantly closer to completing it.
Also worth recalling is that even if the novel goes on sale, it will not be the end of the series – a seventh volume, under the title A Dream of Spring, is also in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, Family of Dragons, a series that is a prequel to Game of Thrones, which the writer in question co-created and produced, will be debuting soon on HBO. This ten-episode series will debut on HBO and HBO Max on August 22. The cast will include Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel and Rhys Ifans, among others.
