Elden Ring Already One of the Top 10 Best-Selling Games in U.S. History

Analyst firm NPD Group's latest sales report reflected the commercial success of Elden Ring, which was June's best-selling game in the United States. Both PS5 and Switch were the most successful consoles.

Elden Ring

Without a doubt, Elden Ring had become one of the great mass video game phenomena, now not only because it is occupying the main conversation spaces, as well as because at the sales level it is enjoying a superb success since its release in February this year.

The last official figure we have is from May, when we found out that it had reached 13 million copies sold worldwide, and now NPD Group has published a new sales report in the United States that confirms this commercial success.

FromSoftware’s new game has once again become the best-selling game of the month in the United States (in terms of dollar revenue), an achievement it has reached in four of the five months it has been on sale.

Not only was it the most successful game of June, but it also entered the top 10 best-selling video games in U.S. history, according to NPD Group.

Furthermore, Matt Piscatella, analyst and executive director of this firm, affirmed last week that Elden Ring will end 2022 as the best-selling game in the U.S. market, which is only the third time since 2009 that a Call of Duty game has failed to hold that position.

Currently the ranking is followed by LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga, Pokémon Legends Arceus, Horizon Forbidden West and MLB: The Show 22, closing the top 5 best-selling games of the year (for now) in the United States.

Best-selling video games and consoles in June in the United States

On top of Elden Ring’s surprising figures, NPD Group has shared the figures for the best-selling video games and consoles in the United States last month, and the amount spent by US gamers in June on gaming-related products: in total, including games, content, consoles and accessories, 4.335 billion dollars were spent last month; this is 11% less than in June of last year.

The top 10 best-selling games in the US for June in software are as follows:

  1. Elden Ring
  2. LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga
  3. Mario Strikers: Battle League Football
  4. MLB: The Show 22
  5. Overwatch
  6. Mario Kart 8
  7. Nintendo Switch Sports
  8. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  9. Final Fantasy VII Remake
  10. Minecraft

In terms of hardware, NPD Group reports that PS5 has been the console that brought in the most dollars in June 2022, as well as in the first half of the year. But Switch leads the chart for units sold in both last month and in the first six months of the year.

Sales of accessories were down 15% in June to $176 million, with the black DualSense as the month’s best-selling peripheral.
