Epic Games Will Definitely Not Restrict NFT Games, CEO Says

Tim Sweeney wishes to leave freedom of decision to developers

There is definitely a lot of controversy about the NFT topic. It is actually difficult to find people who pass by it indifferently. While some people seem to be big fans of this form of monetization, on the contrary, others are firmly opposed to it, accusing it of having a nightmarish impact on the environment.

What is certain is that this form of earning from video games is actually rather moderately acceptable in the gaming community.

This is why some are choosing to completely disassociate themselves from NFT. For example, this is what Mojang recently did, declaring that they are completely blocking this form of promotion or getting rich using this technology on all Minecraft servers.

There are others, however, who take a much lighter approach to the matter. They include, for example, Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games, who was asked directly about Epic Games Store’s position:

Developers should be free to decide how to make their games, and you can decide whether to play them. I think stores and OS developers should not interfere by imposing their views on others. We will definitely not be blocking NFT.

Therefore, as you can see, there can be different approaches to the subject. So it seems that NFT will continue to be present in specific titles available for purchase in the Epic Games Store.

This is sort of an exception to the many other teams in the industry that have opted to block games that use blockchain or NFT (one such was Valve, for example). Be sure to let us know what your take on the subject is – we are curious to hear your thoughts.
