Full-fledged Battlefield 3 Realism Thanks to a Mod Coming This Week

An awesome modification to Battlefield 3.

Battlefield 3 reality mod

Fans regard Battlefield 3 as perhaps the best game ever in DICE’s flagship FPS series, and it is now about to receive a complete overhaul this week, all thanks to a huge realism mod that introduces dynamic graphics, revamped gameplay, and multiplayer servers that support more than 100 players.

As the result of more than seven years of work, Battlefield 3: Reality Mod resembles more of a fan-created remake than a simple mod, since it improves and builds on virtually every aspect of the 2011 original.

Being developed by a huge team of contributors, funded through Patreon and guided by one Stefan Roos, the project was originally inspired by the famous Project Reality mod launched for Battlefield 2 in 2006.

It aims to “encourage players to cooperate and plan their actions, as well as engage in tactical and strategic analysis of the battlefield.” For this purpose, a whole roadmap of groundbreaking features is scheduled for Reality Mod after the July 17 release of version 0.1.

While some of these are vague, like changes to movement speed and weapon management, others directly address the vision of increasing tactical and deliberate play, such as removing the ability to spawn on teammates and bringing in larger maps, a minimalist HUD, and proximity-based VoIP channels.

While the mod itself is free, you must have a legitimate, purchased copy of Battlefield 3 in order to use it, as the installation client, Venice Unleashed, will only work if it can verify that you own the game through EA Origin.
