NBA 2K23 for PC Will Remain Based on the PS4/Xbox One Version

The new NBA 2K23 for PC will not feature the technical improvements of the "next gen" PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, remaining based on the "old gen" for the third year in a row.

NBA 2K23

The current best basketball simulator will return this September with NBA 2K23, which was announced this week with Michael Jordan as the cover star in the special Jordan Edition, how could it be otherwise! (23 is the number of the legendary player’s jersey).

NBA 2K23 will be released, as usual, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC (Steam) on September 9, 2022.

Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions will “take full advantage of the power, speed and technology and will include additions and improvements only possible on these consoles.”

Yes, for the third year in a row, they are excluding the PC from the list of platforms with the best “next gen” exclusives.

Why NBA 2K23 on PC builds on the PS4 and Xbox One versions?

At the NBA 2K23 Q&A, a question was dedicated precisely to whether they have plans to bring the next-gen NBA 2K game to PC and Nintendo Switch in the future.

Indeed, 2K Games explained by saying that it’s something the team is extremely passionate about and that they will look into it in the future. However, “for now we’re focused on making sure NBA 2K23 is optimized for the new consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S), in addition to ensuring the experience is fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.”

That is exactly the same answer they gave in last year’s Q&A with NBA 2K22. This is the third game to exclude PC from the technological improvements made on next gen consoles.

The reason is that they wish to keep the minimum requirements as low as possible. Adding the technical improvements of the PS5 and X Series versions means that the minimum requirements will go way up, which will leave some potential users without the possibility to buy it.

The decision is one that is dividing the community, although after three years of “intergenerational transition”, the majority of users believe that it is time to take the plunge on PC and offer the best possible version. The PC version, in other words, will be the same as the PS4 and Xbox One version.
