Silent Hill: Snow or Ash? Dev Sheds Light on a Major Mystery of the Franchise

Something about the saga's first game has been dividing fans for years

Silent hill ash or snow

Silent Hill games are packed with details and mysteries that fans have discussed for years. However, one detail regarding the first game has long split the community, although the title itself leaves no loose ends in this regard: Does it snowed in or ashes fall in the town of Silent Hill?

The two opinions have their respective defenders, who have used different theories and the saga’s lore to support them. But Masahiro Ito, a developer who worked on the title, is a little sick of this discussion, so he took to his social networks to put an end to the issue once and for all.

Does Silent Hill Have Snow or Ash? Developer Clarifies It

In the original Silent Hill, there are fans who think that ash falls due to Terror in Silent Hill, a 2006 film that successfully adapted the horror of the saga. In the film, it is revealed that the cursed town is covered in ash because of something horrible that happened and ended with a big fire.

However, Ito said that many fans think this, but he clarified that this is wrong, even though it is explained in the film. He revealed that it really is snowing and that this can be proven by various dialogues in the game.

In order to prove it, he shared a screenshot where Harry Mason is shown in a conversation with Michael Kaufmann. One of them mentions that it’s snowing outside, something that leaves no doubt despite the fact that the saga’s lore can be a bit confusing at times.

“The white dots in the sky in the game are not ashes. It’s snowing.” By the way, I got tired of saying this,” Ito said. Fans thanked the developer for explaining this detail, and some criticized the movie for not sticking to the original lore and creating confusion about it.

Some fans asked for a better explanation from the developer, as they don’t really understand why it’s snowing in Silent Hill or why it symbolizes this aspect of the game. So what side are you on? Do you think it is snowing or those are ashes?
