Uncharted Developers Are Working on an Unknown Title for 2 Years – Could It Be Uncharted 5?

Returning to the series seems inevitable.

Uncharted 5

Josh Scherr, developer and animator, and chief writer of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s Journey, has left the Naughty Dog studio (famous for The Last of Us and the Uncharted series) following 21 years of work.

The developer said goodbye to his co-workers and updated his profile on Linkedin from where it appears that he has been working on one as-yet unannounced title over the past two years.

Currently, the Naughty Dog studio is concentrating on the remake of The Last of Us, and while it’s hard to imagine two installments of the series being worked on at the same time, the most likely explanation is that the next iteration of Uncharted is already in production.

All we know about the fifth installment so far is that the developers have a plan to embed an entirely new character in the role of the protagonist, but for the time being there has been no more information revealed about the future of the series.

For the record, earlier this year Naughty Dog officials Shaun Escayg, the man who served as creative director during the development of Uncharted 4: The Lost Legacy, and Kurt Margenau, the director of that production, acknowledged that a return to work on the continuation of the series is quite possible.

“We can certainly say: never say never. Uncharted is a brand that we love, that the studio loves. I love it, and so does Kurt. It’s a world we would still like to see. That I can say for sure,” – Escayg said.
