Back in May, the first rumors about a new game in the Mafia series surfaced. Then we got leaks about the location of the action in Sicily, even another source confirmed the formation of the game. However, we can now officially confirm: Mafia 4 is being made.
2K Games is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Mafia series, and the Mafia Game website featured an interview in which the developers mention work on the productions. There wouldn’t be anything unusual about it, but towards the end of the interview some very important words appear:
“Last question: can you tell us what the plans are for the future of the Mafia series?
Hladík: I’m pleased to announce that we have started work on a brand new project in the Mafia series! We will have to wait a couple of years for the release, and we can’t say anything more for now, but we’re very happy that we will be able to continue working on our beloved series and entertain players with new stories.”
Roman Hladík (CEO) of Hangar 13, and whose team is apparently developing the game, has confirmed the news. Of course, we have to wait for the details, but we can suspect that at least some of the previously revealed details will be confirmed and we will get to know a brand new installment of the series in the near future.
Of course, this is no great surprise, as 2K and Take-Two must have invested a lot of money in the return of the Mafia series, and while the third installment was not hailed as a big hit, then the publisher decided to make a full remake of the first installment.
The expansion of the universe is certainly good news, but it is currently difficult to say how long we will have to wait for the announcement or release of the new Mafia.
