CS:GO celebrates its 10th birthday with an iconic map from CS 1.6

While there are still a few days left until the full 10th anniversary of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s release, but Valve has chosen to start celebrating now – with a large and important update for players. The most significant news is the introduction of an iconic map to the game, which has been awaited for a good few years, by the way.

CS:GO is among the longest-maintained and developed online shooters in history. So far, successive installments of the game have been published every few years, until August 21, 2012, by which time a new installment of the series, titled Global Offensive, was released on Steam.

At first its reception was not very favorable, because the game aimed at a more casual audience (enough to say that the game also hit the Xbox 360, and of course we’re talking about a title aimed at hardcore PC gamers).

With time, however, the title’s appeal changed, and in the meantime Valve succeeded in remodeling the shooting system, altering weapon sounds and even adding new ones.

A decade after the game’s release, it might have seemed that Valve was going to follow the fans’ lead and move the game to the much revamped Source 2 engine – particularly since this had been done in the company’s other title, Dota 2, a while back.

It didn’t happen in the end, but Valve nevertheless surprised players with a nice gift – namely, the addition of the game’s iconic de_Tuscan map, famous back in the days of Counter-Strike 1.6.

This map has been developed and improved by the community for many years, and you could actually test it by downloading it for free from the Steam Workshop. However, now Valve has added it to the official games. And there is a good chance that Tuscan will make it an official tournament map in the coming months.

Besides the iconic location, the game also received four other locations and a new birthday sticker capsule. This one contains up to 60 stickers.
