Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Gets You a Legendary Pokémon Right From the Start

With a new full-fledged ninth-generation Pokémon RPG coming out this fall, now's the time for a revelation.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Gets You a Legendary Pokemon Right From the Start

Nintendo showed off a trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet at yesterday’s Pokémon Presents event. It focuses specifically on the area where you’ll go Pokémon hunting this time around.

The region of Paldea will offer you vast plains, mountainous valleys to explore from the backs of your critters, but also the densely populated city of Mesagoza and many smaller farms and villages.

A major new innovation in the new installment of Pokémon will be the minimap, which will help you navigate the open world. The latter will be quite crucial, since you can take on individual gyms and opponents in any order.

The teaser also emphasizes expanded co-op options. Through Union Circle, you will be able to invite up to three friends to play and hunt Pokémon in the wild together, or go straight into Tera raids and face off against particularly powerful variations.

The derived Terastal Pokémon forms are another unique feature for Paldea. Your charges can transform into a sort of crystalline variant once per battle, wielding more powerful attacks or changing their elemental type and other traits. The iconic Pikachu, for example, is able to fly as a Terastal.

This trailer also introduced some new species and variants of existing Pokémon. The Wooper boasts a brown coloration in Paldee, and the brand new Fidough resembles a cross between a dog and a loaf of bread.

The other new feature will be a more abundant appearance of the powerful Legendary Pokémon, who in previous installments paid for the final phase of the game. It’s not that you’ll lose the Master Ball entirely in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but you’ll have a Koraidon or Miraidon to serve as your transportation from the very beginning. They’re also able to climb walls, float or glide.

This wouldn’t be a dual-titled Pokémon game if the editions weren’t slightly different. Besides the different appearance of trainers, some of the creatures will be exclusive – Scarlet owners will be able to catch Larvitar and Stonjourner, and Violet owners can look forward to Bagon and Eiscue. Scarlet and Violet Pokémon is coming exclusively to Switch on November 18, 2022.
