Modders Are Remaking Skyrim Into a Game of Thrones World

The world from G.R.R. Martin and his A Song of Ice and Fire series has been wowing gamers for some time now. You can either play the official Telltale-produced game, or you can play a non-greasy, non-salt RPG from 2012. In fact, we put together a list of the five best pieces from that world three years ago.

Both of the aforementioned games were largely limiting, however, and weren’t open-world titles where you could explore iconic locations in any detail. Sounds appealing to you?

Then you might be excited about Project Skyros. After all, a bunch of enthusiasts have decided to create an entire continent of Westeros as part of a mod for Skyrim.

The developers don’t just plan to bring iconic places like King’s Landing or Winterfell. The mod is hugely ambitious. It will be a complete standalone game, where you will complete various quests for the different clans and characters you know from the prequel.

Naturally, there are dragons, the appearance of which corresponds to those from the series, communication with ravens, reincarnating into animals or power gained with the help of the old gods.

The team even plans its own soundtrack, taking inspiration from both Skyrim and the TV adaptation of Game of Thrones.

For now, take a look at what Skyros looks like after a year of work in this close-up video. And if you have the time and inclination, maybe you can join in the creation. The team is looking for new members to take care of writing, creating 3D models or level design.

If you are interested in other modifications, one excellent one is offered by Crusader Kings II (and a variant for Crusader Kings III is also in the works).

Or you can get a nice close-up look at Westeros in the mod for Mount & Blade: The Warband, which Vasek once gave us this tragicomic adventure from.
