He will leave the company ranks from early October.

Having worked in Sony’s departments for many years, Masayasu Ito has made the decision to resign from his high position. Effective October 1, the Japanese, whose distinguished career has had a substantial impact on the development of PlayStation consoles, won’t be a representative of the company anymore.

Masayasu Ito was born in 1962, while already since 1986 he had been affiliated with the Tokyo-based company, working in the department preparing car audio equipment.

Starting in 2000, his job responsibilities included the console development section, while he has directly strengthened the ranks of Sony Interactive Entertainment since April 2008.

Over the years, the Japan-based executive oversaw hardware production, directing engineering work on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It was in October 2020 that the specialist unveiled the design of the eagerly awaited new generation. He has since helped launch the PS4 Pro model.

He had been vice president of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Hardware Engineering & Operation section since 2016 (before that, he had the department overseeing software and product development under his supervision).

His job will now be taken over by Lin Tao – the senior vice president recently handled finance, corporate development and SIE strategy.

Simultaneously, Sony has made the decision to promote Kiichiro Urata – the former CEO of Capcom’s U.S. and European division joined Sony in 2021, and now he has become a director.

According to Bloomberg, the reason for Masayasu Ito’s leaving is his age as the specialist intends to retire as early as the end of this month.
