Sega Confirms: There Will Not Be Any More Yakuza-branded Games

The iconic series is being renamed Like a Dragon.

Sega has now confirmed that it will no more release games under the Yakuza brand. Instead, the series is changing its name to Like a Dragon.

This information was acquired from the publisher by the Kotaku website. The new name, as we can find out, will be “closer to the original Japanese title.”

We should note that in fact the series was published under the Yakuza brand only outside Japan. In the cherry blossom country, the gangster saga was known as Ryu ga Gotoku, a term that can be translated just as Like a Dragon.

In other words, the seventh installment of the series: Yakuza: Like a Dragon (released in Japan as Ryu ga Gotoku 7: Whereabouts of Light and Darkness) represents the last installment in the series to be known under the old brand.

It can be argued that the game series has earned enough recognition in Western markets for the publisher to unify the names without creating confusion among fans.
