Tarzan is a character that nearly every movie and TV fan is familiar with. Grown in the wilderness, the protector of wildlife has lived to see not only a series of books, but also multiple live-action and animated film adaptations. Meanwhile, it won’t be long before Tarzan makes a comeback in a brand new version.
As reported by Deadline, Sony Pictures has purchased the rights to Tarzan’s adventures. The source says preliminary work has already started on a new project focusing on the iconic character.
Involved in the venture is also expected to be the company that owns the legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Mr. Edgar Rice Burroughs is an American writer who passed away in 1950. Among other things, he is best known as the creator of the characters Tarzan and John Carter. The former debuted in 1912, when the novel Tarzan Among the Apes was published.
While details on the new project are not yet clear, Sony’s work is said to “reinvent” itself on this classic tale.
A refresh of Tarzan’s adventures may work out well for the brand, after all, more than 20 films have been made to date centering around the young man raised in the jungle.
Tarzan: Legend is the latest live-action production from this universe. Alexander Skarsgård played the title role in 2016, and David Yates was in charge of directing. When new information about the Sony project emerges, we will bring it to you right away.
