Fallout Celebrates Its 25th Birthday: Bethesda Is Remembering With a Video of the Brand’s Lead Author

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Fallout brand, Bethesda has decided to create a video reminding us of its contribution to keeping the series alive.

Fallout brand was established by Black Isle Studios together with publisher Interplay. The first installment of the series was published on October 10, 1997.

Those roleplays received a lot of praise (despite the mass of bugs found in Fallout 2, for example), yet Interplay’s bankruptcy immediately after the release of Fallout 2 in 1998 provided no special hope for the continuation of this post-apocalyptic IP.

At this point Bethesda stepped in, and bought the full rights to the Fallout brand in 2007. Todd Howard speaks in a recent video about that very moment, of Tim Cain (one of the main Fallout authors) “passing the reins” to Bethesda developers.

In the video there is not only footage from Fallout 3, but also from the first two games of the brand. There is even a statement from Tim Cain himself, talking about how he felt in 2007 that his child “would be adopted by a new family that would raise him in a slightly different way than I would have done.”

With the 25th anniversary of the Fallout brand in mind, it’s worth noting that tomorrow (October 20) on the Epic Games Store we will be able to download Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition on PC completely for free.

We should also remind you that the Obsidian team is currently dreaming of creating another Fallout spinoff following the brilliant Fallout New Vegas.
