Origin Is Becoming History, EA App Exits Beta Phase

Something comes to an end, something begins.

EA App

The Origin platform for buying and launching Electronic Arts games on PC is becoming history after 10 years. It will be replaced by the new EA App, which has just left the testing phase and is now available to everyone.

Origin wasn’t getting the best reputation among gamers. The community’s voice has been heard and the new app is not expected to replicate the mistakes of its predecessor.

The developers are promising that it will be lighter, faster and much more reliable, and will provide easier access to EA games and services.

And the interface is more clear and resembles a bit of the Xbox app for PC. With the EA App, you can also link accounts and import friend lists from Steam, PlayStation and the Xbox ecosystem.

Downloads and updates run in the background, and the switch from Origin should be easy and smooth.

You do not need to create a new account – just log into your existing one, and any games and add-ons you have installed and own will already be waiting in the EA App.

This goes for gameplay saves – both local and in the cloud – as well as your friends list, both of which will be transferred to the new environment ahead of time.

The EA App is already accessible on Windows PCs. The platform transition is optional for now, but before long everyone will have to move to the new launcher. While the app is not available on macOS PCs, their owners can continue to use Origin.
