Sony has ambitious plans for it modern goggles.

While the Japanese manufacturer has so far not shared any details about the release of the PlayStation VR2, but we know that the device has went into production.

The company is seeking to make a significant number of copies of the modern goggles available on the market, according to recent reports.

Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki outlined Sony’s latest virtual reality efforts, with a plan to produce 2 million copies of the PlayStation VR2 by March 2023. In a way, these ambitious plans are a setback to the global economic crisis.

“Mass production of the virtual reality goggles began in September and has not yet encountered supply chain constraints, said the people, who asked not to be identified by confidential information. The production volume may be adjusted depending on the sales pace of the device after its release early next year.”

With the hardware set to debut “in early 2023,” the company is targeting to have 2 million units available on the market immediately – an attitude that appears extremely positive, particularly when considering that the first PlayStation VR required as long as eight months to reach sales of 1 million sets.

IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo, vice president of data and analytics, thinks that “the rising cost of living is making many consumers cautious about spending on non-essentials,” and that if the economic crisis worsens, “Sony may be forced to cut production.”

In late 2022 and early 2023, the Japanese are trying to offer as many new PlayStation 5 units as possible, and with the improvement in supply, the PlayStation VR2 will hit the market.

Currently, however, we have no idea how much the modern goggles, designed to work exclusively with the PS5, will be eventually priced at.
