To this day Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is considered one of the best ever adventures starring SEGA’s famous blue hedgehog, which for the first time finds itself sharing the screen with Tails, who is destined to become one of the most beloved and popular characters in the entire franchise.
The second major episode of the series was first released in Japan on the SEGA Mega Drive exactly 30 years ago, on November 21, 1992, before landing in the West as well just a few days later, November 24.
The work by the historic Japanese software house would gain great acclaim from critics and audiences alike, eventually being re-released several times throughout the years between portings and various collections, like the recent Sonic Origins available from June 2022.
To mark this important anniversary, SEGA made available two unreleased posters created by artist Mark Bell and for sale at Moor-Art Gallery (and also visible at the bottom of this news item).
As of the time of writing, the one of the posters appears to be sold-out, and the other is still available. These are celebratory artwork featuring Sonic and Tails escaping by airplane from Dr. Eggman’s flying fortress, Death Egg, in the middle of an explosion.
Celebration aside, there were rumors of a possible new 2D Sonic in development during 2022, but they have not materialized for the time being. How would you like to experience another two-dimensional adventure of the blue hedgehog?
