SubROV: Underwater Discoveries, a simulator of bathyscaphing and underwater exploration, will debut soon in early access on Steam.

Perhaps it won’t be an item on the scale of the biggest blockbusters, but an intriguing title may find a group of loyal fans.

The game will let us steer a remote-controlled floating vehicle, using which we will make maps of undiscovered bottoms of the seas and oceans, take samples or examine various species of deep-sea creatures.

The game aims to combine realism with affordability and is based on the findings of the Bermuda Institute for Ocean Research and the Schmidt Ocean Institute.

“Deep-sea expeditions, like those conducted by the Schmidt Ocean Institute, are invaluable means of communicating scientific progress because they let people see in real time how discoveries are made. However, this is an indirect experience. With subROV: Underwater Discoveries, I wanted to give people the opportunity to recreate the experience of deep-sea exploration, and I hope this will get them interested in underwater exploration.” said José Luis González Castro, the founder of the sqr3lab studio responsible for the game.

Gaming is a beautiful medium that not only serves as a substitute for using other forms of entertainment, but also – and maybe most importantly – lets us experience adventures that, for various reasons, we could not experience, or pursue dreams that, in real life, are available only to a handful of chosen few.

The game by one-man studio sqr3lab from Spain looks to be one such item. The creator of the game, José Luis González Castro, can boast more than 20 years of experience in the gaming industry.

Previously, among other things, Mr. Castro worked at Frontier Developmments, which is the company responsible for the space simulator Elite: Dangerous.

Indeed – despite the relatively simple setting, subROV seems to bring some element of Elite magic to the depths of the oceans, which will allow you to feel like the famous explorer, explorer and popularizer of knowledge about the oceans Jacques Cousteau. The game will soon be available on Steam Early Access.
