We don't have the official release date yet.

The Witcher Remake Is Going To Be an Open-World Game

According to a presentation released by CD Projekt when revealing its latest financial results, the remake of the first The Witcher is going to be a “single player, open world” title.

The first installment of Geralt’s adventures begins in Kear Morhen, but takes place in Temeria, near the city of Wyzima.

What’s crucial is that the campaign is divided into individual chapters and levels, to which we often can’t even return after crossing certain thresholds in the storyline. That approach will apparently change.

Apart from that, this presentation does not reveal any new information about the project. CD Projekt instead boasted the best third quarter in its business history, fueled mainly by good sales of Cyberpunk 2077.

The company generated profits of 21.8 million dollars, up an impressive 504 percent over the previous year. Coming back to the remake, this one was revealed in October. What’s crucial is that an external studio, called Fool’s Theory, established by CDP veterans, is in charge of the work.

While the game is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5 engine, we’ll probably have to wait a few more good years for the release. That production will serve as a technological base, fueling the remake and subsequent parts of the series.

“The Witcher was the beginning of CD Projekt Red, it’s where everything started for us. It was our first game and a landmark moment for the studio. The remake is equally important, because it will be an opportunity for a new generation of gamers to experience the beginning of Geralt’s story for the first time,”

explained Adam Badowski, the studio’s head, back in October.
