Documents sent by Microsoft and Sony to the British anti-trust authority making their case on the Activision-Blizzard-King deal are turning out to be an almost endless source of information and insights.
However, whatever is written by the two companies’ lawyers necessarily needs to be put into context.
For instance, a statement by Sony that Game Pass has 29 million subscribers circulated online in recent days, but paying closer attention it turned out to have been based on a third-party analysis and Xbox later corrected the figure downward to 25 million.
Other news that has been circulating concerns Grand Theft Auto 6, which, as written by Microsoft’s lawyers, is expected in 2024.
On page 24 of Microsoft’s document it says, “The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be released in 2024.”
On first glance it seems that the information written by the representatives comes straight from the corridors of Redmond, in reality footnote number 92 clearly explains that the source is an article on rumors, leakage and speculation published by Tech Radar Gaming, therefore a source that is far from official.
Thus, it’s also important to understand that Microsoft has not unveiled or confirmed the release window for GTA 6. Sure, it is possible that the higher-ups in Redmond actually know about it, but certainly they could not reveal it in public document such as this.
It’s even possible that the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 is actually set for 2024, who can say, what is certain is that the information contained in the document is rumor-based and cannot be taken as a hint, nor can it be taken as confirmation.
