Death Stranding Is Going To Have a Movie Adaptation

Featuring the producer of Barbarian

Death Stranding, the latest work of Hideo Kojima, has been confirmed by Deadline to have a movie adaptation. The US media outlet has revealed that Kojima Productions is partnering with Hammerstone Studios and that Kojima himself and Alex Lebovici are going to be the producers of the film.

Lebovici has recently worked as the producer of Barbarian, the horror film which was released just a few months ago and that has been especially talked about in social networks for its approach to tension and its laudable atmosphere.

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I look forward to collaborating with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen.” said Hideo Kojima.

“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with the brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big-budget video game adaptations, this will be something much more intimate and realistic. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation can be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be a true “Hideo Kojima” production.” added Lebovici.

Considering Kojima’s obvious interests in filmmaking and the numerous connections he has made between the film and video game industries, this seems like a causal rather than a coincidental outcome (which may raise a few easy jokes about whether some of his games were already movies).

Either way, it will certainly be interesting to see how a particular and one-of-a-kind premise like Death Stranding is adapted to film.

Curiously, the news is coming shortly after we learned that 10 million people had already tried the game by Kojima Productions, but the most relevant part came a week ago during the gala of The Game Awards 2022.

There, Death Stranding 2 was announced, which will be released on PS5 on a date still to be determined. The game’s announcement arrived in a spectacular teaser that did not reveal too much, beyond the presence of Léa Seydoux, Norman Reedus, Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna and Troy Baker.

At the moment, it has not been specified whether this cast of actors will also be in the film adaptation or not. What do you think about this movie? Let us know in the comments section.
