Gran Turismo 7 PC. Version Under Development? Series Creator Yamauchi Clarifies

Recently, there were rumors doing the rounds that Kazunori Yamauchi might have indicated ongoing work on a PC version of “Gran Turismo 7”. In order to take the speculation out of the sails, in an interview the series creator took a stand on the reports of the last few weeks.

Late last month, Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi commented on a possible PC version of “Gran Turismo 7” and indicated that it was under consideration or at least not ruled out.

The statement quickly made the rounds and led to the rumor in recent weeks that Polyphony Digital might already have started working on a PC version of the successful racing game.

To counter the speculation and to prevent false rumors from arising, Mr. Yamauchi once again commented on this topic in an interview with the Japanese Dengeki Online.

Although a PC port of “Gran Turismo 7” is in no way ruled out, Yamauchi stressed that it is not currently in the works.

Nothing to announce at the moment

“That’s not true,” said Yamauchi about the reports surrounding ongoing work on the PC version. “In terms of a PC version, I replied that as a developer, it’s not like I haven’t considered all possibilities. That means the possibility is not zero. But if you ask me if I’m doing something concrete, I’m not. There’s nothing to talk about.”

In these weeks, the “Gran Turismo” series is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Appropriately, a few days ago it was confirmed that the racing game series has sold more than 90 million games worldwide. “This is a result that we could not have achieved on our own,” Yamauchi said of the commercial milestone.

He added:

“Behind that 90 million figure are all the people in the media who have brought the fascination of Gran Turismo to their readers. Then there are the people at PlayStation who have passionately sold Gran Turismo for us around the world. And there’s this incredible amount of support from the retailers who work with our customers.”
