The Game Awards 2022 Breaks Its Own Record by Reaching 103 Million Views

The annual gala hosted by Geoff Keighley at which the best games of the year are awarded and big announcements of both new and confirmed titles are made, keeps gaining strength and popularity, according to data from its 2022 edition, which took place last week.

More precisely, the 2022 edition of The Game Awards broke its own record and reached 103 million views, thus being the most watched gala in the entire history of the event. For comparison, the last year’s edition “only” reached 85 million reproductions.

Other interesting facts include the fact that more than 9.5 million unique users watched the gala on Steam to try to get their hands on a Steam Deck, since Valve raffled off a unit of this coveted handheld every minute of the event. The peak on this platform was 850,000 simultaneous viewers.

Interestingly, event was much more talked about on Twitter than last year, featuring 28% more related tweets and a 31% increase in the use of the hashtag #TheGameAwards. Furthermore, 11.5 million of those 103 million plays took place through this social network.

Keighley’s upcoming event will be the Summer Game Fest, scheduled for June 8, 2023, where further announcements related to the world of video games are expected.
