Dishonored Developers Are Planning To Go Back to Their Roots

It appears that Redfall may be a one-off adventure for Arkane studio. As revealed by one of the developers, the studio intends to abandon open worlds in order to return to more “corridor-based” productions.

By way of reminder, Redfall is the upcoming open-world shooter from Arkane Studios. The game is focused on cooperative play and tactical combat against enemies, so it differs significantly from the developer’s previous productions, like Dishonored and Prey.

It turns out, though, that the creators do not intend to develop more open-world projects. In fact, the team will most likely return to creating more “corridor-based” productions, according to Harvey Smith – the studio’s director.

“I think eventually we will return to creating more closed and immersive games,” – Smith said in an interview with GamesRadar. “We just wanted to see what it would be like to wander through an open world in a game from Arkane Studio, where each path takes you to a different place. Ultimately, though, we’ll go back to what people know us for.”

The developer also described how Redfall’s open world differs from other productions in the genre.

“The player will want to get into a barn he finds, or climb a watchtower visible from a distance. The strongest moments of the game will come from exploring and absorbing the world. This is the atmosphere of play we aimed for from the very beginning.”

We also learned from the same interview that the Arkane studio’s production largely resembles games from the Far Cry series.

This title will allow you to ignore the main plot and devote yourself to side activities, exploring or simply fighting vampires.

The Redfall will make its debut on PC and Xbox Series X/S console in 2023. As per recent leaks, the game’s release is reportedly scheduled for early May. Importantly, on the release date, this title will be included in the Xbox Game Pass subscription.
