Final Fantasy Creators Have Big Plans Including Games, Movies, Series and More

The official Square Enix website has published New Year’s wishes from key company employees. In the wishes there were quite a few announcements that herald a really interesting year for Final Fantasy fans, including an announcement of work on the next major production.

“This year will finally see the release of Final Fantasy 16, and the development of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which I am producing, has also accelerated. In addition, we have other big announcements that we can’t talk about for now. 2023 will be a good year for everyone, and I want Final Fantasy fans to be excited.” – conveyed Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

It seems that we will soon hear more about the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The other major announcement was the announcement of a brand new game in the series, to be released in the coming years.

Details about the said production were not revealed, however Square Enix assures players that it is “a full-scale RPG that will be the crowning achievement of the entire series.”

Besides, Square Enix has also announced that it is working on remasters of several previously released games in the Final Fantasy series for new platforms, pending for PC and current-generation consoles.

Furthermore, in addition, company intends to invest in movies, TV series and comics related to the brand, and has announced a partnership with Disney to create Final Fantasy-inspired themed attractions to be located in Disney parks around the world.

It’s still unclear if and which games will make their way to Microsoft’s consoles. While recent unofficial reports suggest that remasters of the classic 2D Final Fantasy installments heading to the PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch may bypass the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, word from Square Enix representatives leads us to hope otherwise.
