Forspoken Is Coming to PC With Controversial Denuvo

Upcoming action RPG Forspoken will make its PC debut with Denuvo, the controversial system that prevents cheating and piracy. It’s possible that the security feature appears in all PC versions of the game.

A note appeared on the Forspoken tab in the Steam store that the game uses a “third-party DRM system: Denuvo Anti-tamper.” The Epic Games store doesn’t have a similar mention, but this doesn’t mean that anti-piracy protection won’t appear in this version as well.

For many this will certainly not be the best news, since according to some gamers the system is notorious for being cumbersome and negatively affecting performance.

Essentially, Denuvo makes it impossible to add or modify key game files, which is meant to curb piracy and make it harder to manipulate the code to gain an unfair advantage in online games.

But in practice, pirates typically crack the security within days or even hours of release. Software is also quite resource-intensive, which is said to translate into lower frame rates in games using it.

Safeguards are often removed by developers after release. That happened, for instance, with Tekken 7, the developers of which decided to disable Denuvo due to the negative impact of the system on the game’s fluidity, even though it happened only 6 years after the market debut.

Safeguards often tend to be turned off earlier, which doesn’t change the fact that some players tend to have very negative opinions about them.

Forspoken is a RPG focused on action, fast-paced combat and fluid movement through the world using “magic parkour.” Its story follows Frey Holland (played by Ella Balinska, known from “Resident Evil: Remedy”), as she moves from modern-day New York to the fantasy land of Athia.

Armed with an enchanted conscious bracelet, she sets out on a journey to find her way home and help the inhabitants of the strange world. The release is scheduled for January 24, and will play on PC and PS5.
