Gears of War Makes a Comeback, Albeit Hardly What Gamers Were Expecting

The flagship series of Microsoft’s third-person shooter Gears of War, is getting a new game, but it’s not the production that fans were hoping for. This will be a card game.

True, the studio The Coalition is working hard on Gears 6, but we do not know much about the game at the moment and do not even know the approximate release window.

In the meantime, the card game set in the popular universe will be released later this year. Gears of War: The Card Game should sweeten some people’s anticipation of the next blockbuster for PC and Xbox consoles.

Steamforged Games, a company with successful card game adaptations of Elden Ring, Resident Evil 2 and Dark Souls, is in charge of the game.

While the company is working with The Coalition and Microsoft, the creators haven’t revealed many details so far.

Not even how the game’s rules actually look like, nor what the distribution model will look like. However, we know that the system was to be designed by Magic: The Gathering veteran Tyler Bielman.

The project was originally announced back in 2020, but since then there has been silence on the subject.

It was said at the time that the card game would offer a story campaign with several scenarios, each with a different objective and terrain layout, with players making decisions that have major consequences during skirmishes on the battlefield.

Gamers can side with both the Coalition and the Horde, with the results of clashes expected to influence the next scenarios played.

Currently, it is unknown if and how the original plans have changed. Nor has a specific release date or price been announced.

While the card production promises to be interesting, the fans seem disappointed by the lack of news on the next full-fledged installment of the series.
