What Will Redfall’s Co-Op Look Like?

After revealing all the gunplay and open world news about Redfall, the guys from Arkane Austin took the opportunity given to them by GamesRadar+ journalists to reveal their main sources of inspiration for the cooperative experience of their next horror shooter coming to PC, Xbox and Game Pass.

Arkane Austin’s co-creative director Ricardo Bare explains, for instance, about how “since the days when we were working on Deus Ex, our team enjoyed playing Diablo, then over the years we experimented with other games with extremely fun co-op like Diablo 2 and Borderlands. And so, remembering these games, we wondered how to recreate that experience in a title of our own.”

Much more ‘nostalgic’, on the other hand, are the inspiration sources cited by Harvey Smith: for the Arkane Austin director, indeed, just about the only game that comes to mind when thinking about Redfall’s co-op is Dungeons & Dragons.

Like Smith himself jokingly admits, “I live in constant fear that people, looking at Redfall and its co-op, will realize that we’re just D&D players who think that video games are just a deeper, more interesting tool for certain experiences. I mean, D&D is the best cooperative game of all time, and I think people would be shocked to know how much our team has played Dungeons & Dragons, from Origin Systems to ION Storm to Arkane.”

At the same GR+ interview, members of Bethesda’s Texas subsidiary and Xbox Game Studios explained that Redfall’s gameplay is more similar to Far Cry than to Left 4 Dead.
