Prepare to have your childhood memories shattered with the arrival of a new horror movie based on a classic children’s character, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
The director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, known for his thrillers like The Area 51 Incident and The Killing Tree, is taking beloved characters from our childhoods and twisting them into something much darker.
The plot follows a disgruntled Winnie the Pooh, upset that his friend Christopher Robin has gone away to college and left him behind. What does he do? The bear takes matters into his own hands and becomes a serial killer with his partner Piglet, terrorizing their world.
But the terror doesn’t stop with Winnie the Pooh. Frake-Waterfield is reportedly interested in creating a whole horror universe with other popular children’s characters.
While he expressed interest in Bambi, he also mentioned a desire to bring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Teletubbies to the big screen as horror icons.
“I’d love to have them in an alley chopping people up, feeding them to their rat king with pizza or something,” he said of his take on Ninja Turtles horror. Unfortunately for him, copyright laws prevent him from getting his hands on these characters for now.
Despite this setback, the sequel to Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is already in the works, with the movie raking in an impressive $2 million at the box office after its January premiere in Mexico and its current theatrical release in the United States. No news yet on when it will hit screens in Spain.
So hold onto your childhood memories, folks. Frake-Waterfield is coming for them, and he’s not playing nice.
