When it comes to Indiana Jones, legendary composer John Williams has been a constant presence, and he’s still impressed with Harrison Ford’s acting skills in the franchise’s fifth installment, The Dial of Fate. In an interview with Variety, Williams shared his excitement for the film, which he scored with over an hour of new music.
“Harrison is great in the film. He’s great, and he moves in a very beautiful way,” Williams exclaimed. He also revealed that the best part of the movie is the interactions between Indiana Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character.
“They are ingenious, brilliant, and agile, a wonderful duo with whom to share two hours of film. The dialogues they share have that classic air, like the ones that Audrey Hepburn and Spencer Tracy shared,” he added.
Williams also expressed his pride in the theme he composed for Waller-Bridge’s character, Helena. “There’s going to be like an hour and a half of brand new music, maybe more. I’m pretty happy with my work. The old works really well as a nostalgia starting point, but I’ve had a lot of fun making new tunes, especially with the song I wrote for Phoebe, who is a wonderful actress.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate is set to hit theaters on June 30, and it seems like Williams may not be ready to retire from scoring just yet. While there was talk that this would be his last Indiana Jones film, he revealed that he’s open to working on more projects if the right proposal comes along.
“If Steven Spielberg or another director comes up with a proposal that moves me so much that I want to put down the phone to sit at the piano and start composing, I’m not going to say no,” Williams said with amusement.
With over 70 years in the industry, Williams’ reputation as a master composer is well-deserved, and his praise for Ford’s performance in Indiana Jones 5 only adds to the excitement for the film’s release.
