After the release of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which introduced Ichiban Kasuga as the new protagonist, it seemed like Kiryu Kazuma’s time had come to an end. However, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGGS) has been dropping hints that the Dragon of Dojima may be making a return.
In a recent broadcast on February 24, the studio premiered the second episode of its documentary series, which goes behind the scenes of the studio’s development process.
The latest episode featured an interview with Takaya Kuroda, the voice actor behind Kiryu Kazuma, who revealed some exciting news about the upcoming game.
According to Kuroda, Kiryu will have a much more prominent role in the new Like a Dragon 8 than he did in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. “This is part of his story, which is why I hope everyone enjoys it,” said Kuroda
Furthermore, Kuroda shared that he believes Kiryu has become more “open-minded” as he has aged and become more aware of how others feel when he speaks. This development adds depth to Kiryu’s character and creates intrigue as to what kind of role he will play in the new game.
Kiryu Kazuma is a beloved character in the Yakuza franchise, and his return will undoubtedly excite fans. Although he made a minor appearance in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, he will play a much bigger part in Like a Dragon 8.
This news comes as a surprise to many, as it was widely believed that Yakuza 6: The Song of Life marked the end of Kiryu’s story. However, it seems that the Dragon of Dojima has more to offer, as he will now be making a major comeback.
The studio recently premiered Like a Dragon: Ishin!, an updated version of the open-world game set in a samurai-era Japan. Fans praised the game for its fascinating gameplay and exploration.
With the new game apparently in development since late 2021, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Kiryu and what kind of role he will play in the upcoming game.
