Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile Could Potentially Replace Call of Duty: Mobile

An Analysis of Microsoft's Plans for Activision Blizzard's Mobile Gaming Market.

Microsoft’s recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard has sparked rumors and speculation about the future of the company’s most popular games, particularly Call of Duty: Mobile.

While Microsoft has yet to finalize the acquisition, the company has already revealed its plans for the mobile gaming market, stating that Call of Duty: Mobile will eventually be replaced by the upcoming Warzone Mobile.

Call of Duty: Mobile, developed by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent, was released in 2019 and has since become one of the most downloaded and profitable games globally. In 2021 alone, it generated a staggering $1 billion in revenue, largely due to its launch in China.

Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Comes as a Surprise, but Not in All Countries

However, Microsoft’s statement suggests that Warzone Mobile, currently in development by a team of studios including Activision Shanghai, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Solid State, will eventually replace Call of Duty: Mobile outside of China.

This statement was made in response to concerns raised by British officials regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. They suggested that selling off parts of the business, particularly the mobile gaming market, would make the acquisition more feasible.

However, Microsoft argued that doing so would impede the company’s strategic goal of building a mobile business capable of competing with Google and Apple.

Although Warzone Mobile’s full version is set to launch later this year, it remains to be seen how quickly it will overtake Call of Duty: Mobile in terms of popularity and revenue.

Nevertheless, Microsoft’s statement suggests that it has a long-term vision for the mobile gaming market, and is determined to capitalize on the potential for growth and profitability in this sector.

As such, it seems likely that Warzone Mobile will play a significant role in Microsoft’s plans for Activision Blizzard’s mobile gaming market.
