Diablo 4’s Release and Its Impact on Diablo 3’s Future

With Diablo 4's impending release, fans are curious about the future of Diablo 3. Blizzard sheds light on what's to come.

Fans of the Diablo franchise can breathe a sigh of relief – Diablo 3 is not going anywhere. However, with the upcoming launch of Diablo 4, questions have been raised about what lies ahead for its predecessor.

Will Diablo 3’s servers remain online, but with a reduced focus on new content? Or will players have the opportunity to experience more seasons packed with fresh content after Season 28 comes to an end?

During a Diablo event in Berlin, GamePro colleague Linda had the chance to gather exciting information about the franchise’s future.

Meanwhile, the folks over at Wowhead conducted an interview with Diablo’s General Manager Rod Fergusson, which provided some insight into the future of Diablo 3.

According to Fergusson, Season 29 will feature a new season theme, but it won’t be as elaborate as Season 28. Starting with Season 30, previous season content will be recycled, featuring a mix of cosmetic items and features from past seasons.

It’s important to note that Blizzard will be reducing its focus on Diablo 3 in favor of Diablo 4. While Diablo 3 will continue to receive support, players shouldn’t expect any major innovations. The live service for Diablo 4 will eventually take over from its predecessor.

Although it’s understandable that Diablo 4’s release will impact Diablo 3’s future, it’s reassuring to know that the game will continue to exist in a slimmed-down capacity.

With years of seasons under its belt, there’s still plenty of content for Blizzard to recycle and keep the game alive.

That being said, players shouldn’t expect anything groundbreaking from future seasons. Diablo 4 is set to take over the franchise’s spotlight in the long term, and Blizzard is clear on this point.

However, for those who still love and enjoy Diablo 3, there are a few more weeks left to experience the game’s swan song before Season 30 starts.

What do you think about the future of Diablo 3? Are you excited for Diablo 4, or are you a bit saddened by the inevitable end of Diablo 3’s reign? Only time will tell what the future holds for this iconic franchise.
