Co-Director Justin Thompson Reveals the Staggering Number of Spider-Characters Featured in the Spider-Verse Sequel

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ the eagerly anticipated sequel to the groundbreaking Spider-Verse movie, is set to feature an impressively vast cast of Spider-themed characters, according to co-director Justin Thompson. Drawing from the rich tapestry of the Spider-Man multiverse, this sequel is primed to take viewers on a dizzying journey through various Spider-Realities.

Thompson candidly discussed the sheer volume of characters with Collider, stating, “The exact number? Oh boy, we kept adding, like all the way up until the very end.”

He admitted that due to the film’s recent completion, a final count hadn’t yet been done. “But I think it was about 280 the last time I looked in… But if you’re just talking about named characters, then I think there’s probably about 95,” Thompson added.

A Taste of the Spider-Multiverse

Teasers and trailers for ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ have already given fans a glimpse of the rich assortment of characters pulled from Spider-Man’s extensive history.

Viewers can expect to see an array of intriguing characters including Ben Reilly, Spider-Punk, Spider-Man Unlimited, Spider-Man India, Spider-Woman, Superior Spider-Man, The Bombastic Bag-Man, and Spinneret, among many others.

Co-director Kemp Powers, in a conversation with Total Film, hinted at a yet-unrevealed cameo that will “blow your eyeballs out the backside of your head,” further piquing the curiosity of fans worldwide.
