Super Mega Baseball 4 Set for Summer Release Featuring Former Pro Players

A First-of-its-kind Roster in EA's Inaugural Super Mega Baseball Edition

The Super Mega Baseball series has always been known for simplifying the sport to its core essentials – pitching, batting, and the amusingly exaggerated reactions of its big-headed characters.

This accessible approach has made the game enjoyable even for those with little to no understanding of baseball.

Introducing a Stellar Roster of Former Pros in Super Mega Baseball 4

Now, the upcoming Super Mega Baseball 4 has been announced, and it will feature a roster of professional players for the first time in the series – albeit, former pros.

In contrast to previous installments that showcased fictional players with a cartoonish flair, SMB4 will break tradition by including “more than 200 larger-than-life versions of fan-favorite former pros.” Among the legendary names that will make an appearance are Babe Ruth, Jose Bautista, David Ortiz, and many more.

The game will also boast a “presentation upgrade,” with new stadiums and animations, an enhanced trait and Team Chemistry system, and expanded cross-platform multiplayer capabilities.

The incorporation of licensed professional players may not come as a surprise, considering that Metalhead Software, the developers behind Super Mega Baseball, was acquired by EA in 2021.

EA had previously produced the MVP Baseball series in the early 2000s until 2K Sports obtained the exclusive Major League Baseball license in 2005.

They continued to release MLB games until 2013, with the MLB license currently held by Sony’s MLB The Show series. The Show games are not available on PC, which may explain why Super Mega Baseball features former pros rather than current ones.

Fans are hopeful that EA will maintain the lighthearted fun of a sports series with “super mega” in the title and avoid introducing Super Mega Ultimate Team. Super Mega Baseball 4 is slated for release on June 2nd and can already be found on Steam.
