Producer Naoki Yoshida addressed this change of plans and expressed his apologies for the inconvenience caused by the 300MB update. However, he assured players that the action-RPG can still be fully enjoyed on the PS5 without the patch.

Yoshida explained that the pre-launch patch will be available for download before the game’s official release. If players have already downloaded the digital version of the game and have their PS5 connected to the internet, the patch will automatically download and be ready to install on launch day.
However, Yoshida reassured players that the patch is not necessary to enjoy the base game fully. Even without the update, players can still dive into the captivating world of Final Fantasy XVI.
“If you don’t have an internet connection or are unable to download the patch in time, you’ll still be able to play the game,” Yoshida assured fans during the broadcast.

In addition to the patch announcement, Yoshida also shared an interesting development detail. Initially, the development team had planned to release Final Fantasy XVI on two discs. However, six months prior to the launch, they were determined to consolidate the game onto a single disc.
