Ever since the first whispers of GTA VI emerged, it was clear that Rockstar Games intended to create an unparalleled experience in almost every aspect. The next installment of the iconic series is expected to be the best, the biggest, and the most expensive to date. In terms of the latter, there is little doubt.

Recent rumors suggest that the production cost of GTA VI may reach an astonishing $1-2 billion. Such an investment would not be made without the utmost confidence in its potential profitability.

To shed some light on what awaits us in terms of GTA VI sales, industry analyst Joost van Dreunen has offered valuable insights. In his recent newsletter, the expert revealed that initial projections indicate the game will sell approximately 25 million copies upon its release.

While these estimates assume an optimistic release window of 2025, accounting for Take-Two’s tendency to delay launches, they suggest that the highly anticipated title will achieve 25 million sales, as stated in the report.

For a more comprehensive analysis of GTA VI’s sales potential, van Dreunen was contacted by the editors of TweakTown. Further examination revealed that these projections are influenced by the anticipated 20% increase in console sales between 2024 and 2025. This implies that approximately 125 million PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles will be in circulation during that time.

Record-Breaking Milestones

Within the first week of its release, GTA VI is expected to generate approximately $1 billion in profits—an extraordinary sum. However, it’s worth noting that the previous installment of the series achieved the same feat in just three days.

As for the first day alone, it is estimated that GTA VI will attract an astounding 12-14 million buyers. By comparison, Grand Theft Auto V garnered 11.21 million sales within the first 24 hours of its debut. Furthermore, during the first quarter of its release, the game sold a staggering 32.5 million copies.
