It’s not surprising, really, that some players are drawn to this quirky endeavor. The companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 exhibit shifts in their attitudes so swiftly that it’s hard not to be intrigued by how quickly players can escalate their relationships from mere acquaintances to intimate partners. And, let’s be honest, it’s an aspect of the game that holds a certain appeal.

In a dedicated category on Speedrun.com titled ‘Sex%’, players are engaging in a different kind of speedrun challenge – aiming to see how rapidly they can achieve in-game romantic encounters. As of now, the record-holder is user ‘hears’, who managed to kindle romantic involvement in a mere 2 minutes and 35 seconds.
However, the competition is far from over, leaving the door open for someone to potentially surpass the 2-minute mark.
Innovative Approaches to Intimacy
Over on YouTube, one speedrunner has gained attention for their speedy romantic pursuits. User ‘Mae’ has achieved a record of 3 minutes and 26 seconds, showcasing how they’ve successfully charmed Lae’zel in a surprisingly short timeframe.
After rescuing Lae’zel and gaining her approval, the player returns to camp where the Githyanki warrior eagerly awaits. Frankly, even getting off the Nautiloid ship in 3 minutes sounds like a challenge, let alone embarking on a romance. The effort is commendable, to say the least.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s various facets of enjoyment and exploration have taken on diverse forms, and the romance speedruns add an amusing twist. From mastering pickpocketing entire cities to orchestrating party-wide eliminations, the game offers a route for every player style.
Personally, I find myself captivated by the RPG’s versatility. Although, at this moment, I’m lamenting that my friends eliminated Lae’zel in our playthrough.
