Nintendo Teases Exciting Changes for Next Zelda Game, No DLC for Tears of the Kingdom

Nintendo Reveals Future Plans for Zelda Series and Provides Updates on Recent Release.

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of The Legend of Zelda series, and Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the game director, have given fans a glimpse into what’s next for the beloved franchise.

While they’re keeping tight-lipped about the specifics, Fujibayashi hinted that the upcoming Zelda game will prioritize fun, and Aonuma promised fans a “new experience” to look forward to.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Aonuma confirmed that there are no plans to release extra content for Tears of the Kingdom, which launched in May for the Nintendo Switch. Aonuma explained that the development team had poured all their creative efforts into the base game, and they believe they’ve fully explored all the gameplay possibilities in this version of Hyrule.

A Glimpse of the Future

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Aonuma continued, saying, “If in the future we find a compelling reason, we may revisit that world once again. Whether it’s another sequel or an entirely new title, I believe the next game will offer a completely new experience. I hope you’ll look forward to it.”

In contrast to Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild received significant post-launch DLC, introducing new gameplay modes like The Master Trials and The Champions Ballad, which expanded the game’s story. Tears of the Kingdom has enjoyed remarkable success since its release, with Nintendo reporting 18.51 million copies sold by June 30.

Aiming for Records

Although Tears of the Kingdom became Nintendo’s second-largest launch ever, trailing behind Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which achieved a record-setting 20.61 million sales in just six weeks, it still has a way to go to surpass Breath of the Wild’s lifetime sales of 30.65 million copies.

Nonetheless, Tears of the Kingdom remains the fastest-selling Nintendo game in Europe and the Americas and is expected to continue its impressive sales as the holiday season approaches.
