In a year filled with nostalgia and anticipation for fans of the Resident Evil franchise, the Resident Evil 4 Remake has emerged as a standout title, catering to both long-time enthusiasts and newcomers.
While the game has been showered with praise, there was one glaring omission that left fans yearning for more—the absence of the beloved laser room section from the original. However, the newly announced Separate Ways DLC is here to rekindle that excitement.
Released in March by Capcom, the Resident Evil 4 Remake has swiftly garnered acclaim as a top-tier survival horror game. It masterfully balanced innovation with respect for the source material, breathing new life into the classic 2005 third-person horror masterpiece.
Yet, despite the game’s overall excellence, it omitted certain cherished moments from the original. Now, the Separate Ways DLC is poised to rekindle the magic by reintroducing some of the most iconic and dearly missed segments from the original Resident Evil 4.
The original Separate Ways was a bonus campaign that followed Ada Wong’s adventures, taking place within the events of Resident Evil 4. In this mode, players could explore Ada’s unique perspective on the story, unlocking it after completing the main game.
As DLC this time around, the new Separate Ways DLC appears to offer a similar adventure, once again casting Ada Wong as the protagonist embroiled in espionage. However, this version adds an intriguing twist—Ada is now infected with the Las Plagas parasite, providing a fresh perspective on the bonus campaign.
One of the most exciting aspects of this DLC is the return of the laser room setpiece, a late-game moment that saw Leon Kennedy skillfully navigating lasers in a high-tech corridor. Additionally, the DLC trailer hints at an area reminiscent of the cable cars section, another cherished element absent from the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Fans will also rejoice at the appearance of U-3, a monstrous adversary absent from the remake but now making a dramatic entrance in Separate Ways. Ada Wong is once again tasked with achieving what Leon and others couldn’t, all while doing it in her signature style.
Separate Ways is scheduled for release on September 21st and will be priced at $10. To access this DLC, players must own the Resident Evil 4 Remake. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, but notably not on Xbox One.
In addition to the Separate Ways DLC, Capcom has plans to release a free update for the Resident Evil 4 Remake. This update will introduce Ada Wong and Albert Wesker as playable characters in the game’s Mercenaries mode, offering players two distinct ways to embody the enigmatic assassin.
