In an unfortunate turn of events, a fire has caused significant damage to the offices of GSC Game World, the developer behind Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
The incident occurred at the company’s Prague office and was first reported by Vortex. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the fire has left one of the three floors in the studio in need of extensive reconstruction.
GSC’s Mol1t confirmed the incident when fans inquired about it on Discord. He stated, “It is true. Fortunately, none of the employees or office staff were injured in the accident. A fire broke out in our offices in Prague on Thursday. Even though the fire was successfully put out, one of the office floors now requires a full restoration. Further details of the accident are still being investigated.”
He also expressed gratitude for the support and questions received from the community, emphasizing the team’s determination to continue their work.
Impact on Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl
The highly anticipated game, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, was originally scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2024. The fire has raised questions about how it might affect the release schedule and whether any game data has been lost due to the incident. Early reports suggest that the team’s “backup servers” may have been damaged.
GSC Game World has faced challenges in the past. Earlier, an early test build of Stalker 2 was stolen and leaked online by Russian hackers as part of a prolonged cyberattack.
The studio, which relocated from Kyiv to Prague last year following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, had previously confirmed being targeted by Russian hackers and threats of blackmail. They asserted their resilience, stating that such attempts to intimidate them were futile.
