The Sims 4 Marks 9th Birthday with Exciting Game Updates

The popular life simulation game reaches a milestone, introducing new content and improvements.

The Sims 4, the beloved life simulation game, reached its ninth birthday over the weekend, making it a significant moment for fans of the franchise. To put it in perspective, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 had a shorter lifespan, only lasting about four and a half years each. This means that The Sims 4 has now reigned as the current-gen champion for twice as long as its predecessors combined.

While the promised “unexpected surprise” was not revealed on this special occasion, the celebration did come with exciting news. The game announced the upcoming release of two mini DLC packs: Poolside Splash and Modern Luxe. These packs are set to launch very soon, in fact, they’ll be available tomorrow.

Poolside Splash will introduce 29 new swimwear-themed Create-A-Sim items, including fun cosmetic flotation devices and a surprising range of outfits for kids. This abundance of content for children is unexpected but adds a delightful twist to the pack.

Modern Luxe: Elevate Your Living Spaces

Modern Luxe, on the other hand, focuses on the Build/Buy aspect of the game, offering 28 new items for creating stylish “statement” bedrooms and living rooms. This kit’s generous item count sets it apart from others in the lineup.

Accompanying these exciting announcements is the release of Patch 150. While perhaps not as grand as some players expected for the anniversary, it brings long-awaited improvements. The Gallery, which had been undergoing maintenance for quite some time, is now fully functional again. Players can now explore other creators’ content with a much-improved search function, enhancing the overall experience.

Another significant addition in Patch 150 is the enhancement of the Build/Buy mode. Now, players can filter items according to the DLC pack they come from, allowing for a more tailored experience. Previously, all kits were grouped together, which was not the case for other pack types.

Minor Fixes and Updates

The update also includes various minor fixes and tweaks, including a notable change for Morgyn Ember, The Sims’ first canonically non-binary character. Morgyn now correctly uses They/Them pronouns in the game, aligning with the 2022 pronouns update.

With the announcement of Poolside Splash and Modern Luxe kits, the paid DLC planned for The Sims 4’s Summer 2023 lineup is now complete. However, the “Take The Reins” program is scheduled to continue until the end of September, leaving room for speculation about potential big news to round off the season. Fans are eagerly watching for any surprises in store.

The Sims 4’s Poolside Splash and Modern Luxe kits will be available on September 7th. Players are encouraged to back up their saved games and mods folders before updating, as Patch 150 is live now on all platforms.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as The Sims 4 continues to evolve and entertain players around the world!
