The excitement surrounding Square Enix’s upcoming game, “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” is reaching new heights as renowned voice actor Matthew Mercer confirms his role as Vincent Valentine in the game.

Matthew Mercer, recognized for his contributions to the D&D show “Critical Role” and an extensive portfolio of video game characters, is set to lend his talents to one of the most iconic characters in the “Final Fantasy” universe.

Mercer’s vast voice acting credits include portraying characters such as Ganondorf in “Tears of the Kingdom,” McCree in “Overwatch,” Yusuke in “Persona 5,” the player character in “Destiny 2,” Goro Majima in “Yakuza: Like A Dragon,” and many more. Interestingly, he had already played various additional voices in “Final Fantasy 7 Remake,” making his presence in the franchise even more significant.

The official announcement came during a panel hosted by Mercer at New York Comic Con, where he was joined by other cast members from the game, including Cody Christian (Cloud Strife), John Eric Bentley (Barret Wallace), Britt Baron (Tifa Lockhart), Max Mittelman (Red XIII), and Suzie Yeung (Yuffie Kisaragi).

Vincent Valentine’s appearance in the latest “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” trailer had already fueled speculations, and the confirmation of Mercer as his voice actor added more weight to the character’s return.

While Vincent’s line in the trailer was brief, Mercer provided further insights during the panel, offering fans a glimpse into what they can expect from his portrayal.

Shortly after the announcement, Mercer expressed his emotions on Twitter, stating, “A year of dreams culminates with this one. No game has had the impact on me quite like FF7 did, and to be a part of it, let alone one of my favorite characters, is an honor beyond words.” His enthusiasm and reverence for the “Final Fantasy” series were palpable in his statement.

However, it’s important to note that Vincent won’t be a playable character in “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.” Instead, he will join the party at specific points in the game, following the model set by Red XIII in the previous installment. As the release of “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” draws closer, Mercer’s involvement promises an exciting and nostalgic experience for fans of the iconic RPG series.
