Forza Motorsport 8 PC Release Plagued by Troubling Performance Problems

As the highly anticipated racing game hits the PC platform, gamers are left frustrated by severe performance issues.

A day of excitement and anticipation for racing enthusiasts took an unfortunate turn as the launch of Forza Motorsport 8 brought serious performance issues for PC players. What makes matters worse is that these problems seem exclusive to the PC version, with the Xbox Series X/S edition running smoothly.

This echoes recent concerns with Starfield’s performance on the Steam Deck, highlighting the challenges of optimizing games for various platforms.

In our review of Forza Motorsport, we highlighted the flawed performance on PC, which has dimmed the prospects of what was expected to be one of the finest racing experiences on this platform. The issues are substantial and significantly impact the overall gaming experience.

Here’s an excerpt from our review that sheds light on the extent of these problems:

“To provide context, I conducted my review on a system that comfortably surpasses the recommended Forza Motorsport system requirements: an i7-9700K, RTX 3080, and 32GB DDR5. Surprisingly, even with a ray-tracing capable graphics card, enabling ray tracing caused the game’s framerate to plummet to below 30fps. Disabling ray tracing did not restore the frame rate; only a complete game restart resolved the issue. While running the game at high settings, I averaged around 80fps on most tracks at 1440p. However, switching to ultra settings dropped the framerate to the mid-40s, making it nearly unplayable for a racing game.”

Despite surpassing the system requirements, achieving satisfactory performance in Forza Motorsport remained an elusive goal. Adding to the frustration, encountering a bug that necessitates a full game restart only exacerbates the problem.

To investigate whether these issues are specific to Nvidia GPUs, we conducted tests on alternative hardware, including an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX, AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 32GB DDRR5 7,400MHz RAM, and an NVMe SSD. Our findings showed improved performance, with 78fps at native 4K resolution when ray tracing was disabled.

However, enabling ray tracing caused performance to drop to 50fps. This stark contrast between Nvidia and AMD cards suggests that the root of the problem may lie within Nvidia’s GPU architecture.

Forza Motorsport

Forza games are renowned for their technical prowess and stunning visuals, often serving as benchmarks for testing new graphics cards. While many anticipated that Motorsport 8 would carry on this tradition, these aspirations must be put on hold until a definitive solution is found.

Hopes remain high that the Turn 10 development team will promptly address these performance issues with a patch. However, resolving these problems will likely require an in-depth investigation into the underlying causes, which could take some time. For now, PC gamers eagerly await a smoother and more enjoyable Forza Motorsport 8 experience.
