Tom Hardy and Austin Butler’s ‘The Bikeriders’ Finds Fresh Start with Focus Features

Overcoming Industry Hurdles, 'The Bikeriders' Gears Up for a 2024 Release with New Distribution Partners.

The Bikeriders,” a gripping crime drama starring Tom Hardy and Austin Butler, has navigated a significant shift in its production journey. Initially set to be released by Disney and 20th Century Studios, the film has now found a new distributor.

Focus Features, in partnership with New Regency, has acquired the global distribution rights, while Universal will handle the overseas distribution. This move comes after the film was removed from Disney’s release schedule and faced an indefinite delay from its originally planned December 1, 2023, premiere.

Part of the reason for the film’s initial delay was the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, which raised concerns about the film’s promotional prospects and its potential performance at the box office. With the new distribution arrangements in place, “The Bikeriders” is now tentatively set for a theatrical release in 2024.

Focus Features’ Enthusiastic Endorsement

Peter Kujawski, Chairman of Focus Features, has expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with the film’s creators. In a statement, he highlighted the company’s commitment to working with leading filmmakers and production partners. Kujawski anticipates that “The Bikeriders,” bolstered by its compelling narrative and powerful performances, will captivate audiences.

A Story of Love, Violence, and Loyalty

The Bikeriders

Directed by Jeff Nichols, “The Bikeriders” tells the poignant story of Kathy (portrayed by Jodie Comer) and her tumultuous marriage to Benny (Austin Butler), a wild biker with a violent streak and unwavering loyalty to gang leader Johnny (Tom Hardy).

The film draws inspiration from the 1968 photo book of the same name, featuring photographs and stories from the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club. The movie has already garnered an 85% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Joining Hardy and Butler in this cinematic journey is a remarkable ensemble cast, including Michael Shannon, Mike Faist, Boyd Holbrook, Damon Herriman, Beau Knapp, Norman Reedus, Emory Cohen, Karl Glusman, Toby Wallace, and Happy Anderson. Their collective performances are expected to add depth and intensity to this already compelling narrative.
