Expanding Horizons: Dark and Darker’s Exciting Patch 2 Updates

Ironmace Unpacks the Impactful Changes and Future Plans for Their Medieval Extraction Game.

Dark and Darker,” the medieval extraction game by Ironmace, is on the cusp of receiving its second major update, Patch 2. In a comprehensive Q&A session, Ironmace’s CEO Terence Seungha Park delved into the details of this imminent update and the game’s future. This patch is set to bring significant changes and new content, elevating the gaming experience to new heights.

One of the key elements of Patch 2 is the game wipe. While players will retain their tokens and character names, their gold reserves and triumph levels will reset, and everyone will start back at level one. This reset is aimed at leveling the playing field and enhancing the overall game experience.

Introduction of the Quest System

A major highlight of the upcoming patch is the introduction of a quest system. Park revealed that initially, this system will be in a basic form to test functionality, featuring about 20 to 30 quests.

Although it won’t be the complete system, it will give players a glimpse into Ironmace’s vision for the game’s questing mechanics. The quests are being developed with the help of a professional writer to deepen the game’s lore.

Another exciting addition is the Adventure Point system. This feature allows players to earn points by exploring High Roller dungeons, which contribute to a seasonal Adventure Title attached to their profiles. The final reward for accumulating these points might be an exclusive skin, although this aspect is still under consideration.

MMR System and Upcoming Changes

Dark and Darker

The Matchmaking Rating (MMR) system has been implemented in the early stages to enhance player matchmaking. Alongside this, the patch will introduce several other changes and additions, including an integrated friends list, a High Roller results screen, and a new Cyclops boss for the Goblin Caves.

Looking beyond Patch 2, Park shared insights into future plans for “Dark and Darker.” These include a new ice map, initially planned for Patch 2 but now likely delayed until January 2024. The map promises unique encounters and an ice dragon, aiming to offer a fresh experience, potentially for three-player teams.

The introduction of the Druid class is another significant development. Ironmace is exploring innovative ways to enable players to transform into a bear in first-person view, though this feature is still in the experimental stages. Additionally, the possibility of a PvP arena-type space is being discussed, though it’s not a confirmed feature yet.
